Drive
Each type of drive has its advantages and disadvantages. At Norta we offer a choice between chain drive with derailleur and hub gear with chain or belt. Your Norta dealer will be happy to help you choose the drive that suits you best.
Derailleur with chain
With a derailleur system, you have a wide gear range, allowing you to choose a comfortable pedaling frequency at all times. This makes it easy to ride over flat terrain, but you can also effortlessly climb a steep hill. These systems are also light and shift very efficiently. Maintenance is easy, but will need to be done more frequently compared to hub systems.
Shimano Acera
The Shimano Acera lets you shift gears quickly and easily. The robust design ensures excellent power transfer on all terrain. Thanks to the strong stainless components, these gears continue to perform with minimum maintenance.
Shimano Deore
The Shimano Deore is a high-quality groupset ideally suited for use with our most powerful e-bike motors. Through years of further development and optimization, this system is reliable and durable. The integrated Linkglide technology ensures better performance and less wear.

Hub gears
Hub gears are very easy to maintain and have a long service life as the components are well protected from dirt and moisture. Moreover, with hub gears it is possible to change gears even while standing still. This way, you can still set off smoothly if you forget to change gears while braking.
Shimano Nexus 5
E-bikes with mid-motor provide a very pleasant riding experience. But they also create high forces on the gears. Therefore, it is important to use only robust and durable components. The Shimano Nexus 5 is specially developed for e-bikes. The strong design ensures better shifting performance. Moreover, this hub has a wide shifting range.
Hub gears with belt drive
For the transmission, you can choose a belt drive from Norta in addition to the classic chain. This has many advantages. For example, a belt has a significantly longer life compared to a chain and is virtually maintenance-free. A belt runs smoothly without the need for lubrication and also cannot rust.
At Norta, only Gates Corporation's Gates Carbon Drive CDX belts are fitted. Gates is the world leader in belt drive technologies. The CDX belts are the highest performing in their range, designed for long touring and off-road riding in the harshest conditions. These timing belts have a weather-resistant polyurethane exterior and strong, stretch-free carbon tensile cords.
Enviolo
With an Enviolo hub gear, you can shift steplessly between the highest and lowest gears. The continuous transmission ensures that you effortlessly shift through the entire gear range. As a result, you will never again suffer from creaking or stuck gears. Moreover, you can shift flawlessly even under high loads. The enviolo gear hub is virtually silent. No clicking or the sound of a chain jumping. The Enviolo hub has a wide gear range that allows both high-speed cycling and uphill cycling comfortably. At Norta, we only mount TREKKING hubs. These are suitable for the high torques of e-bike motors.
Enviolo AutomatiQ
The Enviolo AutomatiQ offers the same advantages as the Enviolo but makes cycling even more comfortable. The gear hub is not only stepless but also shifts fully automatically. All you have to do is set the cadence to your liking and the Enviolo AutomatiQ will make sure you are always in the right gear. Setting the optimal gear all the time also extends service life considerably. When you stop, the e-bike is also automatically put back into a lower gear so you can always leave safely. The mobile app can be used to connect to the system so that settings can be fully personalized.
